Fei Yin believes everything can be explained by science.
When he gets up in the morning, the gentle whisper of the six-foot bed reaches his ears, a smile appears in the smooth wall, and his slippers hop around, each vying to be the first on his feet. Fei Yin looks at his reflection in the mirror as it leans closer, then smiles. "I really shouldn't have stayed up late working. My nearsightedness is getting worse, and so is my tinnitus."
He closes the door behind him and puts on his glasses. The man next door, who jumped to his death yesterday, gives him a bloody smile. Fei Yin immediately reports him. "Hello, hospital? A patient has snuck out and gone home."
On his way downstairs, a panicked girl rushes up and says she knows what happens next. If Fei Yin takes her away, he'll understand the truth. Fei Yin nods, then quickly calls the police while she looks around warily. "Hello, I think someone here may have been kidnapped."
At the entrance to the residential complex, a crowd blocks the way, anxiously discussing how to defend themselves against the apocalyptic disaster they're sure is coming. Fei Yin blends in and quietly calls property management. "There's a crowd blocking traffic at the main entrance. Please clear it up."
At last he reaches the research institute. His assistant asks worriedly, "Director, the danger level in the neighborhood has risen. Are we still going in to observe?"
Fei Yin hands his assistant the monitoring report he brought and answers firmly, "Of course. We have to trust science. Everything is normal."
The assistant takes the report and trembles. Every page is covered with the same word: Run!
