Possessive Male Lead vs. Easygoing Female Lead
Before Xu Xiaojie died, she entrusted her daughter, Xu Nuo, to Hu Zhuru.
When Xu Nuo was in her final year of high school, Hu Zhuru brought a man home.
Jiang Yize sat in a wheelchair, frail and pale. His features were handsome, but weariness from a long illness showed in his eyes. His lips were faintly colored, and he was quiet, gentle, and refined.
Hu Zhuru told Xu Nuo to take good care of Jiang Yize.
Xu Nuo had no objections. She figured they could keep out of each other's way and maintain a veneer of civility in their daily lives.
But some people just didn't know when to quit, insisting on provoking her.
Jiang Yize stopped her and asked with a peaceful smile if the two of them should work together.
Xu Nuo met his gaze coolly and got straight to the point. "What's your real reason for getting close to us?"
The man dropped his act and smiled lazily, his peach-blossom eyes tilting upward. "I don't have a reason. I just think we're alike."
They parted on bad terms.
-
The turning point came during Xu Nuo's first year of college, when she accidentally learned the truth about Xu Xiaojie's death and began to reconsider the partnership Jiang Yize had proposed.
After the two of them agreed to work together, the man gradually lost his sense of boundaries and began interfering in her life.
He always kept a discreet eye on the people around her. Whenever she got a little too close to her childhood friend, he would gently but earnestly remind her:
"Don't get too close to him. I'll worry."
"Stay by my side, okay?"
-
Xu Nuo hated the feeling of being controlled, so she bought a plane ticket and went abroad.
A year later, on a snowy street, Jiang Yize appeared as if from nowhere.
"You didn't go abroad."
"What are you doing here?"
Their voices overlapped, and the air fell silent.
Jiang Yize's face was sickly pale. A strange smile slowly spread across his lips as he fixed his gaze on her and said each word deliberately: "I came to find you, sweetheart."
Note:
1. Both leads are sexually inexperienced. The male lead and the female lead's adoptive mother were never legally married. The rest will be explained later in the story.
2. The leads are not related by blood.
3. Four-year age gap.

Blurb for the next book, Princess Syndrome:
Ji Qingyan grew up spoiled and pampered, never suffering the slightest grievance or hardship. People who had spent time with her said she had princess syndrome.
"Of course it's normal to have princess syndrome. She's a princess, after all."
Those were Ji Qingyan's exact words.
At twenty-two, the wheels of fate suddenly turned against her.
Her parents died in a car accident, and the once-glorious Ji family collapsed overnight. Their rivals took advantage of the situation and ruthlessly crushed them. Before long, the enormous company declared bankruptcy. Her grandfather couldn't bear one blow after another. He suffered a heart attack and passed away.
The pampered young lady of the Ji family, once adored by everyone, suddenly found herself all alone, fallen from the clouds into the mud.
Following her grandfather's dying wishes, Ji Qingyan dragged her heavy suitcase from city to city until she found the son her father had acknowledged years ago, in a rundown apartment building.
Pei Zhi was adopted from an orphanage by Ji's father to cultivate a charitable image, but he had left him to fend for himself, only sending him living expenses each month.
Once Pei Zhi came of age, that thin connection was severed completely, and they lost touch.
Ji Qingyan knocked on the rusting iron door and met the "older brother" she had never seen before.
"Grandpa told me to come stay with you."
She lifted her chin, still carrying the arrogance she hadn't outgrown.
"I'll be relying on you to support me for the rest of my life."
Pei Zhi's features were as cold as ice. An aura that warned others to keep their distance surrounded him, and his gaze held not a trace of warmth.
He looked at the beautiful young woman who had suddenly appeared, his eyes dark and his lips sealed.
Ji Qingyan grew impatient under his gaze, and her voice took on a petulant edge. "Is that not okay?"
Pei Zhi remained cool, parting his thin lips to say, "It is."
He paused, his gaze settling on her face, then added, "On one condition: you have to marry me."
