We once thought the cicadas singing in the camphor trees would stay with us forever. Five silhouettes crowded beneath the shade, weaving our fragmented thoughts about the future into the summer breeze.
But then the wind suddenly fell still, and the cicadas' song abruptly stopped. Someone no longer kept up with our steps, and someone else was left behind in a summer that would never end. Only you and I remained, holding hands on the empty sports field.
The warmth at our fingertips can fend off some of the cold. But whenever the wind sweeps past the treetops, the times we laughed together and all the words left unsaid still gently tug at our hearts, sometimes bringing tears to our eyes as we walk side by side.
Abstract, goofy seme × uke with a "serious condition"
(A friendly reminder: this story has no angst, only sweetness.)
