Lin Yuyi and Yan Huanyin are childhood friends who live across the hall from each other.
When they were little, Lin Yuyi sneaked a piece of chocolate from the jar Yan Huanyin kept it in. Yan Huanyin grabbed him by the ear and told his mother.
“Auntie, Lin Yuyi stole my chocolate!”
Later, Lin Yuyi scrimped and saved his allowance to buy a whole bag of chocolates, which he generously shared with Yan Huanyin.
Unfortunately, the shopkeeper had sold him expired chocolate. Yan Huanyin came down with gastroenteritis afterward, while Lin Yuyi's stomach had always been as tough as steel, so he was fine.
As she got an IV drip, Yan Huanyin complained to Lin Yuyi's mother: “Auntie, he poisoned me.”
Yan Huanyin was always the one who came out on top, while Lin Yuyi was always the one who got the short end of the stick.
-
In high school, Yan Huanyin was leagues ahead of Lin Yuyi academically.
One day, they happened to walk side by side and were caught by a teacher, who mistook them for a couple. Both sets of parents were summoned to school for a talk.
Yan Huanyin's mother and Lin Yuyi's mother looked at each other, awkwardly scratching their heads, and said in unison:
“Teacher... they're just friends...”
Yan Huanyin said softly, “Who would ever like someone like him?”
Lin Yuyi stood up straight, the corner of his mouth twitching. “I could never like someone like you either.”

Later on.
Using his friend's birthday as an excuse, Lin Yuyi downed one drink after another. Alcohol turned his neck and cheeks red.
He sat in a daze outside the restaurant, as if invisible hands were twisting his stomach.
Rain poured from the dark night sky.
Yan Huanyin got a call and hurried over. Seeing how drunk he was, she frowned.
She held an umbrella in one hand and reached out to him with the other.
“Lin Yuyi, I'm here to 'redeem' you.”
He grinned roguishly and yanked her toward him. She tipped forward and fell into his arms, and the umbrella slipped from her hand and hit the ground.
They pressed close together, separated only by thin layers of fabric. Their heartbeats mingled, and the air was damp and heavy.
Lin Yuyi said cheekily, “Yan Huanyin, break up with him and be with me. I'll buy you lots and lots of jars of chocolate.”
Yan Huanyin paused, then replied lightly, “I've never had a boyfriend... What jerk told you I had one? ... Then kiss me on the cheek, and I'll say yes.”
Time flew by, and feelings quietly began to blossom.
Maybe Lin Yuyi had already fallen for her when the teacher mistakenly caught them dating.
They were just young and too stubborn to admit it.
‖ Two sharp-tongued people bickering every day.
A lighthearted, sweet romance. He pursues her. Single-couple romance, happy ending.
