I've been feeling troubled lately:
My master is always praising the new junior sister who joined the sect next door in front of me, saying she's calm and clever, hardworking and considerate.
I don't agree, and I don't like hearing it.
I work hard for him and strive to improve myself, but the most he ever says is, "Good girl."
So, in my third year as a disciple, I made a momentous decision:
I'm going to take first place in the sect competition, then confess to my master. Yes, I've had a crush on him for ages. I've never seen anyone more handsome.
I want to grow flowers with him and enjoy all the beautiful sights this world has to offer.
But my master is a cloud at the edge of the sky, snow on a mountaintop, a flower on a ridge: always visible, but forever out of reach.
People are made of flesh and blood. I've even warmed the cold jade he gave me on the day I joined, but I still can't warm his heart. I'm exhausted.
I've decided to take a break.
As it happens, the senior brother from the neighboring peak is always hanging around me.
He's skilled, tall, and... not bad-looking either. When he keeps his mouth shut, he's just about useful enough to soothe my heart, which my master has left in tatters.
The longer he stays around, the more he gets into it, until he's hooked and forgets all about the world. He cries and begs to become my live-in son-in-law.
Fine, I think. Since he's so devoted, I'll grant his wish and give myself a break.
--He's the one.
But who could have guessed that my master, who hadn't shown his face in ages, would suddenly appear in my room late at night, smiling as he asked whether I wanted to admire the moon, the flowers, or him?
...I think there's something wrong with him.
