Su Wantang, the illegitimate daughter of the Minister of Rites, is sent into the palace as a gift by her stepmother. Her aloof, proud nature and refusal to flatter anyone instead catch the attention of the scheming Emperor Xiao Jingheng. He deliberately tests her with various ploys, while Su Wantang completes tasks through the "Palace Missions System," such as "stopping a poisoned cup of wine" and "making medicinal dishes," earning skills like medicine and self-defense. She turns the tables on the antagonists who envy her, including the Noble Consort. As the two continue to scheme against each other, they slowly fall in love. In the end, Su Wantang rises from a maid who shares the emperor's bed to become empress. Together with Xiao Jingheng, she resolves the palace's crises and finds a sweet, happy ending.
