Originally titled The Lazy Little Princess. A carefree, lazy little witch versus a gloomy, obsessive prince. A bickering couple on the run with a baby.
Qi Kui Kui was one of Prince Shangguan Yu's concubines. After the struggle among the seven princes for the throne was settled, the princes were all punished, and the Fifth Prince Shangguan Yu's estate was thoroughly searched. Kui Kui dug out her contract of service, gathered all the gold and valuables she could carry, and fled the city that very night.
Great, Shangguan Yu was dead. She wouldn't have to serve him anymore.
He'd taken her from the Third Prince and demoted her to a concubine. He was cold and cutting toward her every day, and even though he didn't like her, he still slept with her. She'd had enough.
Now she was free and had money. She could go back to the countryside and marry an honest man.
At a dock on a rainy night, Kui Kui boarded a boat clutching her bundle. She opened the door, and her smile froze.
Shangguan Yu was still wearing his silver armor. Head bowed, rainwater still running down his face, he sat imposingly at the table, steam rising from the tea in his cup.
Kui Kui jumped and lost her grip. Gold, silver, and strings of jade beads tumbled from her bundle and scattered across the floor. A silver-threaded jade bangle rolled right up to Shangguan Yu's feet.
The white-and-black boots, caked with wet mud, planted themselves firmly on the pale green jade bangle, crushing it underfoot.
Shangguan Yu lifted his eyes and looked at her darkly. "Running away?"
Kui Kui was dragged back by Shangguan Yu and made his concubine again. But now he was going to marry his principal wife.
On the night of his wedding, Kui Kui sat in her room eating chilled melon while listening to the lively congratulations outside. Shangguan Yu suddenly burst through the door in his wedding clothes, his face flushed. Before Kui Kui could react, he dragged her onto the bed.
Kui Kui ran away again. This time she wasn't caught, but she didn't get a single thing from Shangguan Yu either. She left with nothing. With no other way to survive, Kui Kui had to make a living drawing erotic illustrations.
With her deadline approaching, Kui Kui worked day and night at the bookshop to finish her illustrations, until she finally worked herself unconscious.
When she opened her eyes, the bookshop owner smiled warmly and congratulated her. "Kui Kui, congratulations, you're pregnant."
Kui Kui closed her eyes and fainted again.
Another rainy night.
Rain beat on the eaves, and a discreet knock echoed at the door. Kui Kui opened it. The moment she recognized the person outside, she slammed it shut, but it was too late.
Shangguan Yu's face and clothes were soaked through. He held the door in place with one hand and glared ominously at her slightly rounded belly.
"What, aren't you going to invite me in for a seat?"
