(A note before reading: Vampires fear the sun. Their bodies will spontaneously combust in sunlight.)
For the past hundred years, Chi Sui and I have loved each other. He is my husband, a vampire, and the Lord of the Nightmare Realm, who can walk only in the dark.
I was born ordinary and had little spiritual power. I thought that as long as I remained obedient, we could be together for a long, long time and live in peace.
Until I saw him bring home a beautiful woman who could grant vampires the right to walk beneath the sun. She could sleep every day in the magnificent palace I was forbidden to enter.
Ah, I sighed.
-
He deceived me, betrayed me, and killed me.
At the moment I was dying, the memories I had lost finally flooded back. It turned out I was the mortal enemy of all vampires. The token in my hands could control the sunset, bring up the sun, and burn every vampire to ash.
But I had mistakenly given it to Chi Sui.
What a pity, what a pity. I remembered too late. When that day finally came, all I could do was ask myself why, throughout all those long years, Sui Ji had been the only meaning in my life.
-
I never expected I would wake again, on the very day I first met Chi Sui.
This time, I was going to take his life.
He was covered in mud, kneeling in the snow as a sea of flames swallowed the dead branches and leaves. Amid the black smoke, his blood and tears mingled as he begged me to turn around and look at him just once.
I didn't. Instead, I took the hand another man held out to me.
That man asked, "Will you come with me?"
Without hesitation, I said, "Sure."
My happiness was only just beginning.
So was Chi Sui's suffering.
For all eternity, he deserved to rot in the mud.

Reader's Guide:
The blurb is in first person, but the main text is not.
A slow-simmered, old-fashioned story.
The vampires in this Eastern ancient fantasy setting are unconventional, with plenty of original worldbuilding.
