Q: How did you get into YG?

A: It was around 2014. I suddenly got the urge to become a trainee, so a friend and I decided at a cafe that whichever company came over to hand us a business card first would be the one we'd join. As it happened, a YG scout was the first to come over and ask if I wanted to join YG. I went with him to audition, and that's how I became a YG trainee.

Zheng Xialan also thought it sounded a little absurd. She gave an awkward chuckle and added, "Everything comes down to fate, haha."

Q: Describe your life as a trainee.

A: My life as a trainee? Back then, I had no other thoughts at all. There were just four big words in my mind: "I have to debut." Looking back now, I remember waking up every day with all my bones creaking. But as soon as I thought about having to pack my things and go home if I didn't debut, that image was so terrifying that I'd immediately get out of bed and head to the practice room. Haha.

On screen, Zheng Xialan's eyes curved into crescents, and the dimples in her cheeks appeared and disappeared. With a lighthearted joke, she breezed past the two years of grueling training.
