When the midnight tide washes over the seventh reef, those taking part in the "Migration" wake in excruciating pain. Silver scales appear on their wrists and spread at a speed visible to the naked eye, and only 72 hours remain until the next "reckoning."
This is a cursed survival game. Every participant is someone who "should have died": a driver burned in a car crash, a student who fell from a rooftop but landed on an awning, a patient whose heart stopped on the operating table before suddenly opening their eyes... At the moment of death, an invisible force dragged them back to the world of the living. But they discovered that they had become "Migrators," forced into a repeating contest of death.
The rules are simple and cruel: Within each 72-hour round, Migrators must find and "sacrifice" an "outsider," trading that person's life for a chance to make their own silver scales recede. If they fail, the scales will spread over their hearts, killing them for real through suffocation-like agony, in exactly the way they were "supposed to die." Even stranger, at the end of each round, all surviving Migrators are forcibly transported to a new "arena." It might be an abandoned hospital in a rainstorm, a school burned in a fire, or even someone's labyrinth of memories. Every arena holds fragments revealing the origin of the "Migration."
Most despairing of all is the true nature of the "Migration": It is not simply a survival game, but punishment for those who have "tampered with death." At the moment they were dying, every participant had unconsciously "stolen" someone else's chance to survive. The pregnant woman who should have been hit by the driver lived; the awning the falling student struck belonged to a homeless man; the patient on the operating table took the vital signs of an old person in the next bed... The "Migration" makes them repay, round after round, the deaths they owe.
When the silver scales cover their entire bodies, Migrators become new "judges," forced to watch the next round. The only way to break the cycle lies in its most paradoxical rule: If someone can choose to forgo a sacrifice in one round and end their own life in the way they were "supposed to die," they might break the cycle. But no one knows whether this kind of "release" means returning to death or falling into an even deeper void.
The tide is rising again, and the seventh reef is faintly visible among the waves. The silver scales on their wrists are burning hot. A new Migration has begun.
Like the migration of fish, the game brings repeated escapes from death. The final verdict is impossible to reverse. Human greed knows no bounds.
"The depths of the human heart are often filled with all kinds of desires, which make people greedy and foolish. And I most enjoy watching these foolish humans do anything for the tiniest benefit, watching them offer everything to me in their madness. So I designed a game for them. They escape death here again and again, but in the end, they can only be reduced to ashes. That is what the Migration means."
