Synopsis
On his seventeenth birthday, snow falling on a blade was cold, but blood splashed across the Spring and Autumn Annals was scalding.
Overnight, the vermilion gates burned to ashes, and the entire Li clan became a sacrifice in the struggle for imperial power. When the aristocratic young master who once held a brush crawled out from beneath a pile of corpses, the scholarly air in his eyes had crumbled to dust, leaving only the resolve of a cold blade.
After ten years in hiding, the Zhuoying Alliance stirred the martial world. He wielded intelligence as a blade and the martial world as armor, cutting down corrupt officials and excising the festering flesh of those who had framed the Li clan. In the Jiangnan rain, he met a figure in blue robes. The strings of Chu Qingci's pipa resonated with the Cold River Sword, and two lonely blades cleaved through the fog. The truth emerged: the Li clan's supposed treason was a lie, while the Imperial Noble Consort and the Emperor had framed them.
When war fires blazed on the northern frontier, a blood-written letter summoned him home. He donned his father's armor and stood before the remnants of their forces. One cry of "Young Master" awakened the fighting spirit of a thousand soldiers. He reclaimed the lands trampled by the barbarian tribes and uprooted the cancer entrenched in the imperial court.
In the Zichen Hall, he refused the throne and imprisoned the treacherous officials, then flung the evidence before the muddleheaded Emperor. The officials urged him to ascend, the Dragon Throne stood before him, yet he said, "The Li clan protects the land, not the throne. We do not covet the highest imperial seat." Yet in the end, for the sparks of hope in the eyes of the people, he knelt and swore to write a new history with the people's hearts as his ink, one without wrongful convictions. For that small, unyielding light in the hearts of millions, he took the throne.
From a survivor fleeing the ashes of the vermilion gates to the leader directing the game from within the Zhuoying Alliance; from a general breaking through enemy lines atop the northern frontier walls to the new ruler who set the realm in order from the Zichen Hall. His life was a blood-soaked revenge for the Li clan, redemption shared on the Cold River, and a rebirth from bringing peace to the realm with brush and ink to securing it with the people's hearts.
Where the Li return, the land is at last clear and bright, and darkness is banished.
