An Eighties Part-Time Writer

The moment Ji Xiaogu opens her eyes, she finds herself in 1974.

Her father and older brother were both drivers for the transport team. They were killed while out on a run. Her mother tearfully complained to the transport team, then took the compensation money and promptly swapped the two jobs.

Her mother got her sister-in-law a job as a shop assistant, then asked Ji Xiaogu what she wanted to do.

Ji Xiaogu touches her chest. The original owner's grief and anger still linger inside her.

"Get me a job at the Public Security Bureau."

Criminal investigation techniques are still primitive in this era. Highway robbers may be locals or criminals passing through, and the place where her father and brother were killed happens to be an ungoverned blind spot where three districts meet. Finding the criminals on her own would be like searching for a needle in a haystack.

She sets herself a small goal first: get the case files from the Public Security Bureau.

But she's only an ordinary clerk at a local police station. How can she get them?

Wait, what? The Ministry of Public Security is holding an essay contest? Winning a prize could be her chance to transfer!
