An old-school tragic romance, younger man and older man, faux step-siblings
Younger brother's point of view:
One year ago:
The night before I left for Korea, I knocked on Yan's door. His eyes were red and puffy from crying, like a rabbit's. He said nothing, only held me tightly. I used to think that I could only find peace by his side. Now I had to run away from him to find peace.
He asked me, "Can you stay?"
I said, "I can..."
Then I kissed him...
"Can I still stay now?"
He held me and sobbed uncontrollably.
One year later:
When the dorm phone rang for the third time, I was so annoyed by it that I finally got up and answered. "Stop calling! There's no one in the dorm!"
"Lu Jing..."
"Yan?"
"I'm downstairs from your dorm..."
I couldn't even be bothered to put on more clothes. Wearing only shorts and a short-sleeved shirt, with my slippers half on, I ran downstairs like a madman. In the freezing snow, he was like a beam of light, so bright I couldn't open my eyes. I spread my arms, and he threw himself into them. I heard my heart pounding again and again.
Older brother's point of view:
Let's forget it all.
It was nothing but an obsession, a cycle of reincarnation. I threw the ring he gave me into the wishing pond in the park at the street corner. If there's a next life, remember to go around me. I've already wronged you in this life, and I don't want to repay you in the next one either.
Please read these points before starting:
1. The writing style is extremely, extremely, extremely old-school, from back when angsty melodramatic fiction was popular, haha.
2. First-person narration.
3. Tragic ending, very much a tragic ending. It's angsty, the kind that makes your heart, liver, and lungs ache.
Theme: Live well
