In the 20th year of Emperor Jing's reign in the Kingdom of Nan Sheng, Fu Nanke was born. Everyone said he was blessed: born in the rich, watery lands of Jiangnan, he was also the only son of Prince Fu, the late Emperor Wen's younger brother. Prince Fu's fief lay in Jiangnan, a vital economic region. If the old prince rebelled, the capital would surely be in danger. So ever since Emperor Jing took the throne, he had been wary of the old prince. The several sons born to Princess Consort Yu all died under mysterious circumstances. When Si Jing'an learned he was to marry Miss Fu, he was utterly unwilling. After getting drunk and sleeping with his wife on their wedding night, he hurried off to war. Fu Nanke had barely seen her husband's face, so she decided to travel north from Nan Sheng to the border with the Kingdom of Mo in search of Si Jing'an. But she discovered that Jing'an didn't even know she was his wife. Furious, she kept silent and followed the army to the Kingdom of Mo. Along the way, she and Si Jing'an fell in love, and Fu Nanke became pregnant.
But the journey was fraught with danger, and Emperor Jing was ruling from the capital…
