Shen Zhaoli is the happiest "human" in the Floating Light Community. She lives in a sunlit panoramic room, earns the highest points, and is never held responsible for exploiting bugs.
But all she wants each day is to die. She exploits bugs to destroy herself, refuses emotional stabilizers, and sets her energy-charging cable alight like fireworks... She even asks the System with a smile, "When are you finally going to kill me?"
The System only ever replies gently, "Please cherish your superior genes."
Then, during a flicker caused by a malfunction, she suddenly sees it: inside a massive metal pipe, "she" is kneeling in a pool of blue blood, her body swollen like a balloon, pierced by countless tubes and on the verge of bursting.
In that instant, she finally pieces together the shattered truth: she was once a high-ranking System administrator. To keep the world from being completely replaced by the System, she turned her own body into a bomb and sealed herself deep inside the upper-level pipes, vowing to resist the System's total control.
For its own protection, the System didn't dare erase her completely. It had no choice but to split her consciousness apart and imprison the pieces in the lower dimensions.
She is deeply bound to the System.
If she were to vanish completely, the entire world would collapse with her.
So the System can only tolerate all her madness while doing everything it can to erase her memories...
When she sees it again, the pale, withered "self" pierced by countless tubes in the upper-level pipes is silently begging for help. From that moment on, she sets out to find herself.
She begins to climb upward.
Consciousness is the only code; memories are the keys to clearing each level.
She travels between floors, unlocking the selves that have been sealed away, crossing false peace and passing through suffering imposed by design,
one level, then another...
all to reclaim every "self" that was taken from her.
On the first level, she roams the edges of the System, constantly testing the limits between life and death with all kinds of bizarre methods, from jumping off buildings to hanging herself, all to recover the "truth" sealed away by her body.
The System can only gently admonish her. It isn't favoritism; it simply has no other choice.
On the second level, she unexpectedly becomes a slave worker bee, only to discover that this body of hers can self-destruct. Damn that System! How dare it make her work? Shen Zhaoli roars inwardly: Even if I have to die, I'm taking you down with me!
On the third level, she becomes a neurotic painter, turning self-harm into art. She sneers, "At least I'm sick in a uniquely interesting way."
On the fourth level, she becomes a piece of code, yet has enough power to hack the entire System.
And when she brushes past her amnesiac lover's code, she decides to drag him into a system crash with her. If they can't recognize each other, then they'll fall together.
...At last, she pushes open the door to the highest level,
facing the incomplete, pale "self" in the pipes, on the verge of disappearing.
She reaches out, her voice clear and resolute:
