"Pride makes others unable to love me, and prejudice makes me unable to love others."
Jane Austen, Pride and Prejudice
A restrained, self-controlled piano professor VS a passionate, flamboyant singer
Lin Yue first met Tang Caiyun on the lawn of a music academy. A famous music professor from Hong Kong, she had been invited to the mainland to give a series of lectures.
Tang Caiyun, a top student in the school's vocal performance department, was assigned to show her around the campus.
The girl was popular throughout the school and always surrounded by people, a stark contrast to the piano professor, who was used to being alone.
After more than four months together day in and day out, even the solitary Lin Yue had grown used to that clear, bright voice by her side. So on the day her lecture series ended, she quietly submitted a request to the school to delay her return to Hong Kong.
They began dating in an empty concert hall and clasping hands in the practice rooms after midnight.
But two equally proud people could not escape conflict.
After a heated argument following a performance, neither was willing to back down first. Lin Yue flew back to Hong Kong that very night, while Tang Caiyun deleted all her contact information and went abroad to further her studies.
Years later, Lin Yue traveled abroad for an event as an internationally renowned pianist.
At the banquet, she met the now top singer Tang Caiyun's gaze.
When the hosts announced that the two would be working together again, Tang Caiyun toyed with her wineglass and smiled faintly. "Professor Lin, long time no see."
The things they'd left unsaid finally surged back to the surface, carried by the notes falling from the piano keys.
