Ji Qi never imagined that he would remember someone like this again.
That day at a bar, Ji Qi met someone whose face seemed familiar, but he just couldn't remember who she was.
It wasn't until the woman asked, "Are you Ji...?"
"I'm Ji Qi," he answered first.
She had a gentle appearance but a bold personality. She patted her head as if suddenly remembering. "You're that boy from my younger sister's class, aren't you?"
A faint memory stirred. There was a girl who looked somewhat like her, and who had been in the same middle school class as him. He thought he could recall that long-forgotten name.
"Jiang Xian, right? Your younger sister."

Jiang Xian and Ji Qi had been in the same middle school class. Jiang Xian was gentle, quiet, and never inclined to chat with people. She had only one or two friends in class and always sat in the front row, not because she was a good student, but because she was so bad at school that the homeroom teacher kept an eye on her while she studied.
Ji Qi, meanwhile, got into fights, skipped class to drink, climbed over walls to go online, and did just about everything else. At first, the homeroom teacher tried to manage him. Eventually, he became such a headache that the teacher simply gave up.
For three years of middle school, one sat in the front row and the other in the very last row.
The two, who had no connection whatsoever, spent those three years as strangers.
On a night like this, Ji Qi suddenly remembered that there had once been someone like her in his class.
He was sure Jiang Xian wouldn't remember him, but as he thought back to middle school, a gentle face suddenly came to mind.
Jiang Xian was a girl he had once liked.
Ten years had passed, and he was almost ready to forget her. All the more so for a girl who had barely spoken to him.

As a conscientious elementary school Chinese teacher, Jiang Xian was diligent and responsible. But since this wasn't the job she had wanted, sometimes she would go out drinking late at night. This time, though, instead of buying a few bottles to drink alone at home, she dragged a friend to a small bar.
She threw up all over the floor. Then, bleary-eyed and drunk, she looked at the man who came over, couldn't hold it back, and threw up again, right onto him.
Looking at the girl who was dead drunk, Ji Qi sighed. "Jiang Xian, we're closing."
Jiang Xian was unconscious and didn't answer. Ji Qi could only ask again, "Jiang Xian, where do you live?"
Still no reply.
Later, they would share a home. They would no longer be parallel lines that never crossed.
Ji Qi loved music, and became a composer. His very first composition was all about her.
