After a corpse mutation turned the world into a living hell, Sang Shiyu set out to find his suddenly missing master. Carrying a small bundle, he left the mountain where he'd lived for fifteen years.
Then he dug a bitten official out of a horde of walking corpses.
The official, Yu Gushan, was young, strong, and handsome. Even dressed in coarse cloth and living in such a remote backwater, he couldn't hide his air of refinement. He was just a little too talkative, like a gossipy old lady from the village, and seemed fiercely protective of Sang Shiyu from the moment they met.
Sang Shiyu had never seen anyone remain so lucid and human after being infected by corpse worms. Curious, he took Yu Gushan along, studying him as they traveled north in search of his master's trail.
They journeyed a thousand miles, defended cities, fought off waves of corpses, quelled internal strife, and searched for a cure. Side by side, they entrusted their lives to each other.
.
At last, after uncovering the cause of the corpse mutations, Sang Shiyu set about making an antidote.
To test whether it worked, he ignored Yu Gushan's protests and resistance, arguing with him as he grabbed him and made him take a bite.
The antidote proved effective, and Yu Gushan, still shaken, retaliated by biting him all over, leaving a bodyful of teeth marks.
Sang Shiyu: “Yes! This medicine is the real deal.”
Yu Gushan: “...”
I hate that you're such a block of wood.jpg

“Five Corpse Worms lurk in the five organs. They cannot be detected until they activate, at which point the person dies.
After death, the body becomes a walking corpse. Its mouth hangs open, its eyes bulge, and its pupils dilate as it drools. Its neck stiffens, its limbs become hard to move, and it staggers as it walks. It loses all awareness and reason, retaining only its hunger and craving for the breath of the living. If it bites someone, the worm's poison enters through the wound, and they will turn into a new corpse in moments.
To put an end to this scourge, one must crush the neck, so the dead body may lie still forever.”
