From the Start, a Sacrifice to the Evil God: Speedrunning My Way to Godhood

Bored during a free period, you discover a new game called Genesis. There are only a few players on the leaderboard, but they have an intense sense of conviction, and every one of them claims to be a god.

It’s only after you’re dragged into the game that you realize this really is Genesis, and the other players really are gods.

If you want to go home, you have to level up all the way to godhood.

As luck would have it, you’re a total cheat.

You always feel your leveling speed is too slow, so you seek advice from a high-ranking mage.

The high-ranking mage’s face twists. “You’re saying you achieved in a few days what takes ordinary people over a decade, and you still think it’s too slow?”

The local army is recruiting conscripts for the war and invites you to join.

You shake your head again and again. “I can’t! I’m super weak! You need a seventh-rank mage, but I still haven’t learned one of the seventh-rank spells!”

The other mages: ? Are you mocking us? What’s wrong with becoming a seventh-rank mage after learning just one seventh-rank spell?

The eighth-rank mage you easily defeated despite the rank difference bursts into tears. “If you’re weak, then what does that make me?”

Fortunately, getting followers is pretty easy.

The Church vows to uphold the religious rule of the native God of Light, while the residents of a newly established city-state turn to worshipping you instead.

One side condemns the other for worshipping an evil god, warning that Heaven will strike them down. The other curses the old-fashioned fools for serving a made-up deity like dogs. A war of faith is about to break out.

You look away guiltily. “Um, is it possible, and I mean just possible, that the God of Light is also me?”
