Synopsis
This is the story of Mo Nian, a modern woman who accidentally transmigrates into a world of cultivation and becomes a young woman at the Kunlun Immortal Sect, blessed with the rare "Chaos Spirit Root." After being taken as the personal disciple of Sect Master Xuanxu Zhenren, she meets Qing He, a senior sister who joined the sect earlier and possesses a wood-type Heavenly Spirit Root. The two come to know and understand each other, setting off together on their path of cultivation.
When Mo Nian first arrives at Kunlun, the unique nature of her Chaos Spirit Root makes her both a rare genius unseen in ten thousand years and the target of skepticism and challenges, including the contempt of disciples like Chang Feng. Qing He, her senior sister, accepts her warmly but firmly and helps her settle in. She shows Mo Nian around the sect and teaches her basic spells and cultivation methods. The two share a home in Listening Snow Pavilion and tend spiritual herbs together in the Spirit Herb Garden, growing ever closer.
As Mo Nian gradually masters the nature of her Chaos Spirit Root, she learns to communicate with various spiritual beings and control spiritual energy of multiple attributes, steadily growing stronger. With the sect's small-scale tournament approaching, undercurrents begin to stir. Someone sneaks into the Spirit Herb Garden to steal medicine, while another person poisons the Star-Tethering Grass that Mo Nian has carefully cultivated with Spirit-Eroding Powder. These events make the two realize that Kunlun is not as peaceful as it seems. Mo Nian resolves to enter the tournament to prove herself and build up her strength so she can face the challenges ahead alongside Qing He. Qing He, meanwhile, is determined to protect all the competitors as an accompanying disciple, including Mo Nian.
The story follows the two as they grow in their cultivation. It features thrilling clashes of magic and explorations of secret realms, as well as the deepening bond between them as they support one another. On a perilous and unpredictable path to immortality, they become each other's source of warmth and strength, facing crises together and pursuing the Great Dao.
Theme: This book explores the deeper meaning of "companionship" and "growth" on the path of cultivation. Centered on the bond between Mo Nian and Qing He, it shows how two people with different spirit roots and personalities can support each other, overcome prejudice from the outside world and their own limitations, and prove that true strength lies not only in talent and cultivation, but also in trusting and protecting one another, and in the resilient character forged by facing danger together. Through their growth as they challenge conventional ideas about spirit roots, the story also conveys the belief that "the Dao has no fixed form; what matters is one's heart." It emphasizes that embracing differences and walking side by side is far more likely to lead to the true meaning of cultivation than standing alone in pride.
