He has little humanity, but he isn't without it. Du Mingli doesn't care whether Ji Yuanxing has the secret to immortality or miraculous magic that can summon wind and rain, or whether he can get his hands on them. All he cares about is whether Ji Yuanxing belongs to him.
Respecting one's teacher is a rule for gentlemen. But Du Mingli isn't called a gentleman. He's called Du Mingli.
