[Free story, not contracted, no paid chapters. Probably a short story. I'll update when I have time. Seriously, don't study medicine.]
Bu Xueyi was a medical graduate student. After work, she pulled an all-nighter working on her thesis and was rushed to the ICU before morning.
A second before losing consciousness, she gritted her teeth and swore that in her next life, she'd rather be a dog than study medicine again.
The good news: she survived.
The bad news: she really was reborn as a dog.
And not just any dog, but a big yellow dog that often stopped by the medical school's library to cool off.
Bu Xueyi looked at her fluffy reflection in the artificial lake and saw a gloomy dog face staring back.
Oh well. At least dogs didn't have to do medical residency, write theses, or take exams. That was a good thing, too.
She napped on the tiled floor of the medical school cafe, hoping a student coming to buy coffee would treat Dog Senior to a black-pepper sausage.
Then a loud crash came from the sky, and the entire medical school was plunged into a supernatural realm crisis.
Bu Xueyi: ...
Is this never going to end? Does anyone care whether a dog lives or dies?
The medical school, once gloomy with finals approaching, suddenly came alive when the supernatural realm appeared.
The library now housed not only studious medical students, but studious zombies, too.
The dormitory housed not only medical students poring over their textbooks, but man-eating flowers chewing on medical students.
Worse still, the supernatural realm split the medical school into different spaces. The slightest mistake could pull you into a spatial rift.
Bu Xueyi was a dog, but she was ready to give it her all.
She only wanted to go to the artificial lake for a drink, but accidentally got sucked into a spatial rift.
It was fine, though. She'd read countless horror novels. No matter how creepy the scene was, she wasn't afraid!!!
Then, in a flash, a biochemistry exam paper appeared on the desk in front of her.
A creature from the supernatural realm revealed a mouthful of gleaming white teeth and said with a smile, “You can't leave if you fail the exam.”
She was scared.
The medical students hadn't even finished finals week when they were suddenly swept into the ever-changing supernatural realm.
They would never forget the day the big yellow dog who freeloaded food and drinks around campus suddenly started speaking human language.
The yellow dog's coat gleamed as its black eyes shifted. “I remember now! I remember everything! The first-choice medication for myasthenia gravis is neostigmine!”
“The sign of chronic bronchitis complicated by emphysema is a barrel chest!”
“The lowest aortic pressure occurs at the end of isovolumetric contraction!”
The medical students: “???”
They'd thought that medical students turning into dogs during finals week was just an old legend.
The medical students who survived the ordeal escaped the spatial rift with Dog Senior.
Once they were sure they were safe, they started gossiping about Dog Senior's origins right in front of her.
Some said she was a giant dog who had cultivated into a spirit at the medical school, known as the Medical Dog.
Some said she was a spirit formed from students' anger at failing their exams, named the Dog-Sized Grudge.
Some said she was a medical PhD student who'd taken so long to graduate that she'd become a vengeful spirit bound to the school.
Bu Xueyi: “You could just ask me, you know.”
Her junior had a look of absolute conviction in her eyes. She crouched down and said, “Senior, I know you.”
Bu Xueyi waited eagerly for her answer.
Her junior continued, “Don't you have a dog friend named Charlie IX?”
