Before Lu Ling died, he wasn’t called Lu Ling. He was Dadai, a Bichon Frise.
Yes, he went from being a dog to being a human.
[Superhuman sense of smell unlocked. Ability to understand animals unlocked.]
If someone had told him two years ago that working as an emotional support dog could lead to such a horrible death, he would definitely have chosen guide-dog training!
As for who killed him, Lu Ling was certain it had to be his mentally ill owner, Shen Mengze.
The day Shen Mengze adopted him, Dadai was overjoyed. His new owner looked handsome and rich. Even if he had a mental illness, life with him would surely mean good food, good times, and a happy life as a dog!
But Shen Mengze was gentle and handsome on the outside, and absolutely awful at home!
He had crippling OCD and was deeply obsessive. He secretly cut himself with a knife, loved watching gory horror films, and scared the neighbor’s kids every day.
And he even threatened to make him into braised Bichon Frise!
Dadai had also personally seen his owner post this on social media:
[Title: What’s it like having an awful dog?]
[Post: He starts howling early every morning, sniffs out and eats any treats I hide, loves digging through the trash, and needs a walk every day. He’s so annoying. One of these days I’m going to butcher him and eat him.]
Dadai: Horror! Screaming! My owner is going to eat me!
-
That scared the living daylights out of him. Reborn, Lu Ling decided he had to run as far away as possible.
But he’d failed to check his horoscope before leaving home, and wound up walking straight into a police station.
-Can someone tell him why the head of the criminal investigation squad looks so much like his owner???
-And the necklace around his owner’s neck... why does it look like a photo of him sleeping with his head all swollen up like a pig’s???

[Dadai the Bichon Frise: A User’s Guide] by Shen Mengze
Stranger, if you find a little Bichon Frise named Dadai, please read the following guide.
1. He’s loyal and clingy. Please don’t abandon him. He’ll get depressed.
2. His sense of smell is sharp. Use it wisely for unexpected results.
3. He goes into heat easily.
(If possible, please tell him I miss him so much.)

[Bonus Scene]
Years later, Lu Ling saw that old post again. It had become a popular dog-bot post, with users checking in to gawk in the comments every day:
Top comment: I’ve got an awful dog too. This one looks so annoying! Hurry up and get rid of him.
Poster’s reply: Get lost. Did I ask you to raise him? Who are you to judge?

[Reader’s Guide]
1. A mystery-solving novel with a ridiculously powerful golden finger, told in episodic form.
2. A naturally clueless but effortlessly flirtatious dog sweetheart x a cold-faced, obsessive, mentally ill pursuer who washes his underwear.
3. This is planned as a long novel, and mystery stories are difficult to write, so the preparation will take a long time. I’m posting the blurb first to see if anyone might like it. (Saved July 3, 2025.)
