Desperate Beta and the Romance System

Chen Wang is a desperate Beta.

In this diverse society, where people are divided into three sexes, the other two sexes each have their own loyal supporters. Omega equality advocates denounce Alphas as systematic oppressors in society, patriarchal and prone to violence, while straight-A supremacists shout online every day that Omegas should stay home and raise children.

Betas stay quiet as mice.

A hard-working little worker ant, Chen Wang sits dutifully at his desk, typing away. He never gets involved in Alpha-Omega disputes and immediately scrolls past posts about them.

But deep down, Chen Wang is actually an extreme anti-AO partisan.

Not against either one in particular. He's saying that every single one of you is an idiot!!

In high school, the Alpha at the desk next to him ordered him to hand over his homework so his cute little Omega could copy it, and all three assignments ended up exactly the same. In college, he had to listen every day to three Alpha-Omega couples upstairs and downstairs arguing. At his first job after graduation, he got caught in a romance dispute between his Alpha boss and an Omega intern and was kicked out as a scapegoat. Chen Wang just wants to stay as far away as possible from those Alphas and Omegas who make eyes at each other until sparks fly!

But fate had other plans. One day, while Chen Wang was working late at the office, he suddenly saw a halo appear above his head in the pitch-black room.

For a moment, Chen Wang thought he had worked himself to death and was ascending to heaven. But then a sweet mechanical voice sounded beside his ear:

"Hello, Host~ Welcome to the Romance System~"

From then on, Chen Wang would occasionally hear the System's prompts under certain circumstances.

For example, when a new senior executive from the planning department next door paused briefly as he walked past their office, Chen Wang immediately heard an electronic voice in his ear: "Affection +10."

Chen Wang's fingers stopped typing.

But he wasn't naive enough to think an Alpha had taken a liking to him. Chen Wang turned around calmly and, sure enough, saw the cute little Omega from the marketing department watering the plants on the windowsill.

The cute little Omega seemed to feel someone watching him. He turned around, his gaze naturally passing over Chen Wang to land on the Alpha behind him.

Chen Wang: Okay, got it.

The next day, he moved every potted plant from the windowsill to the shared hallway. That Alpha-Omega pair never appeared in front of him again, and a month later, Chen Wang heard they had gotten married.

Chen Wang silently added an item to his KPI and decided the country should reward him for his outstanding contribution to boosting the birth rate.

In short, this System doesn't help Chen Wang with his own love life, but it does help him avoid a lot of trouble caused by Alphas and Omegas.

Chen Wang himself has a heart of stone. When he was seven, his Alpha-Omega parents left him behind on the pretext of going on their fourth honeymoon, and he survived on instant noodles for a week. That's when he vowed never to join the ranks of those Alphas and Omegas, and never to let romance compromise his noble Beta character.

Lately, though, he has a small but bothersome problem.

Su Qifei is his childhood friend and his only non-Beta friend. Although he's an Omega and very handsome, Su Qifei has always focused on his studies and work. He has never been like certain other Omegas who go weak in the knees at the sight of an Alpha who's even vaguely good-looking. Chen Wang treasures this friend and secretly swears to protect his childhood friend, making sure he isn't led astray by an Alpha.

But lately, Chen Wang has noticed that the people around him all seem to like Su Qifei.

His former boss, an older student from college, his employer's rich second-generation son, a handsome neighbor in college... Whenever Chen Wang brings Su Qifei along, their affection levels skyrocket!!

Chen Wang is on high alert. His childhood friend is beautiful and kind, so it's only natural that Alphas would covet him. Chen Wang plans to carefully assess which of all these Alphas is the best match for his good friend.

But while he's investigating, Su Qifei suddenly asks to meet him alone.

"Xiao Wang." His beautiful, kind childhood friend gazes at him with those clear eyes, framed by long, curled lashes, and softly says, "I like you."
