Qi He was just a child when his entire family was slaughtered. His parents died right beside him. Their killer stood before him, tall and graceful, with all the time in the world.
To survive and take revenge, Qi He did the only thing he could when the killer slowly reached for his throat to finish him off. He burst into tears, fell to his knees like a coward, clung to the killer's leg, and begged piteously for mercy, saying every nice thing he could think of.
The killer paused, then smiled at him. Qi He had touched his heart, and he spared his life. Instead, he took him back and made him his disciple, becoming his master.
For years, Qi He lived in fear, bending with the wind and hiding a blade behind his honeyed words. Serving his master was like serving a tiger. Even though his master's cultivation was beyond measure and he had killed countless people, Qi He always dreamed of killing him with his own hands and avenging his family.
Or he would have been fine with someone else killing his master.
Unfortunately, before that day arrived, he came across a strange storybook and learned that he was actually a disposable villain in this world, while his master was the story's ultimate villain. In the future, both Qi He and the senior sister he loved would be turned into pills by his murderous, insane master.
Terrified, Qi He stole his master's secret manual and ran away from the sect to escape his fate of becoming a pill.
Naturally, his master refused to let him go and pursued him relentlessly.
Qi He fled in all directions, running for his life. Thanks to the storybook, he finally managed to outlast his wicked master.
He was looking forward to a free and happy future with his senior sister, but before he could even celebrate,
his master came back to life and blocked his way. A chill aura clung to him as he smiled at Qi He, unhurried and elegant.
Clearly, he had come to settle the score.
Terrified out of his mind, Qi He had a flash of inspiration and tried his old trick. He dropped to his knees, wrapped his arms around the long, slender legs before him, and put on the performance of his life. He wailed, tears streaming down his face, as he showered his master with frenzied praise.
"Master, is it really you? You're back! I'm so happy! I've been longing for you day and night, missing you until I fell ill. I can't eat or sleep, and all I think about is you!"
"Is that so?" His master smiled and slowly reached out to him, his eyes deep and icy.
Qi He felt utterly hopeless. Was there really no escaping this?
He shut his eyes in despair, trembling all over.
But the long, cool fingers only pinched his face, now rounder than before.
Then his master sighed softly, like an old friend remarking after a long separation: "You've gotten fat."
"Looks like you've been doing quite well while I was gone."
