Gorgeous, dazzling con artist × dim-witted, loyal little monster
Lou Chunxue is a con artist who gets by in the martial world with her silver tongue. Her scams are masterful, and her heart is hard enough.
To save her older brother, who is trapped in prison, she is doing everything she can to raise the life-saving ransom money. But she has already swindled the entire city, and there's no one left to con.
Then she happens upon a little monster who has just arrived in the human world, innocent and clueless. He may be penniless, but his eyes are so pure he seems barely sentient.
Lou Chunxue feels a rare flicker of “kindness” and decides to fool the silly boy into entering a ridiculous contest held by the equally ridiculous Demon-Hunting Bureau, so they can win some money.
She never manages to get any money out of him. Instead, she ends up losing quite a bit herself.
Who would have thought that the seemingly harmless little monster had a secret purpose of his own? He really does shower her with sweet words, and he really does keep the truth from her.
One deception is wrapped inside another, and in the cracks between lies, true feelings quietly take root.
Before Lou Chunxue can even confront him after discovering the truth, the little monster gets upset first. He keeps watch by her bedside every night, plaintively singing, “I pluck the flowering branch, I grieve for the flowering branch. I thought we'd share a cup when the blossoms opened, but when they did, you were gone...”
Lou Chunxue is exasperated. After putting the monster in his place, she finally gets him to put on a long face and admit he was wrong.
She stares at the little monster, who gets mad for all of one second before cheerfully pretending to be an idiot again, and feels completely unsure of herself.
This little rascal really does admit his mistakes without ever correcting them!
But to Nan Jin, the hidden truth has been revealed and his sealed memories have been unlocked, yet his beloved still cannot remember anything about their past life, no matter what.
He repeats, again and again, “The reason I was born into this world is to love you.”
Lou Chunxue says he's making a fuss over nothing. The most pressing question now is how to get through a lonely, cold night in an empty courtyard.
Nan Jin gazes at the moon, feeling melancholy. Inwardly, he thinks that his beautiful wife is still just as captivating when she gives him the cold shoulder, while planning his next “mischief.”
Reader's Guide:
1. Before the male lead regains his memories and restores his true form, he is a little cricket. This mainly serves the plot. If he weren't a little cricket, the female lead probably wouldn't give him a second glance, and the two of them would go their separate ways. Orz.
2. There is little cultivation in the early part, but it gradually becomes more prominent later.
3. The male lead is illiterate, unlucky, and a walking disaster. If you can't stand a silly male lead, don't read. I'm not saying he's an idiot, exactly. He's just a little too carefree, though he does have some brains.
4. Jin is a bit petty. In the middle, there will be chaotic scenes where he doesn't care who the enemy is, and all he sees is a rivalry for the female lead's affection.
5. One-on-one romance, happy ending, both leads have had no other partners.
