Song Xueshi transmigrates into a tragic novel as the male lead Lin Xizhou's master: a noble and illustrious leader of the righteous path who cultivates the Heartless Dao.
The System tells him: In the original story, you fall in love with the heroine, fail to win her heart, break your Dao and turn evil, then die when your disciple runs you through with a sword. Your mission is to bring the male and female leads together and turn this tragic novel into a sweet romance.
Song Xueshi thinks the mission sounds pretty good. As his disciple's master, he takes thunder tribulations for him, steals treasures, breaks into forbidden grounds, and conveniently nudges the heroine into his disciple's arms. His Heartless Dao is rock-solid, and he handles everything with ease.
Until, during a trial, he is on the brink of death and sees Lin Xizhou racing toward him, drenched in blood.
His heart pounds like a drum.
The Heartless Dao shatters.
Then his vision turns white, and he loses consciousness.
When he wakes again, he thinks he has only just transmigrated.
The good news: He arrived in time.
The bad news: The Heartless Dao has already shattered.
The System says the original host broke his Dao and turned evil for the heroine, Xu Qingqing. He was destined to die when his disciple ran him through with a sword. Now Song Xueshi has to clean up the original host's mess, get the male and female leads together, and keep himself alive.
Song Xueshi trembles. Fine, he can just stay away from the male lead, right?
He'll push the heroine toward Lin Xizhou, then run as far away as he can.
Until Lin Xizhou corners him at the edge of a cliff and grips his chin, forcing him to look up.
Song Xueshi's legs go weak. It's over. The original plot is happening. He's going to kill me!
But Lin Xizhou doesn't draw his sword. His eyes are bloodshot, his knuckles clenched white, and his voice is hoarse, as if ground out of his throat:
"Master, you've been avoiding me for a hundred years. You avoided me for her?"
"You broke your Heartless Dao for Xu Qingqing! You broke it for her?"
Song Xueshi: ...Huh?
He knows the Heartless Dao is broken. But the original host broke it. What does that have to do with him?
Lin Xizhou grips his shoulders so hard his hands tremble. "You love her that much? You'd give up even your Dao for her? What about me, Master? What about me?"
Song Xueshi's head spins as Lin Xizhou shakes him, his mind a total muddle.
Isn't this guy supposed to kill him? Why does he look like...he's about to cry?
Song Xueshi is afraid of Lin Xizhou. In the original story, this man killed the villain. But right now, Lin Xizhou looks like someone stabbed him.
Song Xueshi freezes.
So he didn't arrive in time after all.
Is he the original host who broke his Dao for the heroine? No, the one who broke his Dao was clearly Lin Xizhou.
Then he looks up and says one thing to the System in his mind.
"You've been lying to me all this time."
"Get lost."
