Pei Ling went north for a political marriage, marrying Chu Liang, the Third Prince of Beihua. They had known and accompanied each other since childhood, and were deeply devoted.
But their happiness did not last. Her husband was falsely accused of treason, and Pei Ling watched him endure a flogging and die a miserable death in prison.
After being pardoned, Pei Ling was sent back to her homeland with the army. Yet when she awoke one day, she was nowhere near the official road south.
She was bound across a horse's back, and the hand that had once whipped her late husband was clasped firmly around her waist.
"I presume to bring you to my private residence without permission, Madam. Please forgive me."
Zou Qi, her late husband's former study companion and close friend, now a great general, was still as proper and impeccable as ever.
But before long, Pei Ling found a whole cabinet of her undergarments in his room.
She finally realized that this man had secretly coveted her for seven whole years, but it was too late.
She was already limp in Zou Qi's arms. "I want you now. Please."
After one moment of surrender, Pei Ling could no longer escape him.
.
Zou Qi once thought Heaven had taken pity on him, letting the moonlight he never dared to dream of fall by his side.
But no matter how tender he was with her, he still heard her call out "A Liang" in her midnight dreams.
It doesn't matter. How could a dead man compete with the living?
Even if she coolly pulled on her skirt, the beautiful, broken-winged bird had long since lost any chance of escaping his grasp.

On the day Pei Ling finally resolved to escape all this madness, Chu Yu, the Fourth Prince whose fate had crossed hers and who had been sent south as a hostage in childhood, returned home and moved into the general's residence.
That night, Zou Qi, usually so compliant, possessed her like a madman, but terror filled his eyes, a look she had never seen before.
She didn't understand why until she ran into Chu Yu and saw that his eyes were identical to Chu Liang's.
Pei Ling turned away in a panic, afraid to look again, afraid of repeating the past and hurting them both.
But the young man learned to slip through a hole in the wall into her courtyard, telling her about his homeland and asking about his late brother.
With an innocent smile, he leaned close to her. "I've forgotten what my brother looked like. Sister-in-law, do I look like him?"
Pei Ling didn't answer. She only closed her eyes and kissed the familiar warmth of the moment.
.
On his first night at the general's residence, Chu Yu perched on the roof, watching with interest as the decisive general who had put him under house arrest grew red-eyed over a beauty with her sash half undone.
But when Chu Yu realized that all their whispered conversations and arguments were because of his face...
He suddenly came up with a plan to avenge his father and brother and reclaim everything.
The first step was to seduce this woman.

The day Pei Ling left the general's residence went unexpectedly smoothly.
Chu Yu kissed her insistently and asked,
"Sister, if I didn't look like my brother, would you be willing to leave with me...?"
Before she could answer, Zou Qi came rushing in, yanked Pei Ling off the bed, and pulled her into his arms. Darkness was all she could see.
But the suffocation she expected never came. All she could sense was that, in the chaos, the two men beside her, though utterly at odds, had somehow reached a strange understanding.
"I'll stand guard. Hide her!"
Then the door was kicked open with a bang, and the room fell silent.
Pei Ling struggled to raise her head
Chu Liang stood in the doorway, holding a long sword, his face frosty.
"Give me back my woman."
Reader's guide and content warnings:
- Important: The heroine has a substantial romance arc with each male lead. They appear in the order listed in the blurb, and each has plenty of scenes. The love triangle starts around the middle; see chapter warnings. Each section is temporarily one-on-one, but the ending isn't a popularity contest. You know what I mean.
- The heroine is the only one with a clean romantic history; all the men are virgins. She is a cool, goddess-like beauty, but also an ordinary person with feelings and desires whose temperament can change, not a perfect saint. See the blurb for the male leads: all three are utterly devoted, lovesick romantics.
- Contains the melodramatic tropes in the blurb and the author's personal preferences. The author's writing skills are limited. This is not a strong heroine story; it mainly focuses on the heroine's relationships, including romance, friendship, and family. The plot exists purely to serve the relationship arcs.
- Mostly told from the heroine's perspective, with twists in the plot.
- The official systems and place names are invented; please don't nitpick. The northern and southern courts are not different ethnic groups.
- Not a rebirth story, not a strong heroine story, not a popularity contest, and not a power fantasy. Expect a tragic, tangled romance.

Did you break the rules of heaven in the previous chapter?
It's almost time. I hate you for being a piece of wood. Let your brother do it.
It's okay, teacher, and I wish you all the best in life. Take a break if you're too tired
Author, have you abandoned the article?
Happy New Year, please update
Sister Pei is already kind enough. She has missed her late husband for so long. She should feel free to play with other men boldly, hahaha.
Puppy Zou is really good after being tamed 🤗
