Also known as: My Popularity Soared While I Carried a Coffin, and Now Everyone Dotes on Me; My Secret Identity Is a Wooden Puppet
Shen Xing transmigrated into a hot-blooded monster-hunting manga shortly before his death.
The good news: He transmigrated with his body.
The bad news: His body and soul transmigrated separately.
He was supposed to transmigrate as a puppeteer, but the System kicked his soul straight into a wooden puppet.
His extraordinarily handsome, vividly lifelike body, meanwhile, became a "Sleeping Beauty" he had to carry around at all times. Without its soul, it lay inside a specially made coffin.
Shen Xing stared blankly. "...You're saying I have to wear this expressionless face and creaking joints, pretend to be a normal person, join the protagonist's team, and beat them to become number one in popularity?"
System: "That's right, Host."
Well, if there's no way around it, I'll just give it everything I've got!!!
Ling Lingqi (Shen Xing): Let's start by giving myself a new name :D
And so, the manga readers and the protagonist's team witnessed the following:
He stubbornly carried the heavy coffin on his back, moving stiffly like a marionette, yet every time a monster's claws came at him, he protected his burden with his life.
His voice was cold and flat, keeping everyone at a distance. Yet when no one was around, he gently wiped the face and combed the hair of the handsome young man sleeping in the coffin, murmuring softly to him.
He appeared at every crucial moment for reasons no one could fathom. His methods were unusual and his loyalties unclear, but whenever danger struck, he offered them clues they never expected.
The protagonist's team and manga readers at first:
"Is he a monster? A puppet? Or some kind of sorcerer?"
"Why is he getting close to us?!"
Later on:
Now I get it! What a moving, breathtaking love story: a devoted puppet and the sleeping monster puppeteer who created him, bound together in life and death, waiting faithfully for one another!
He's cold on the outside but warm inside, and his love runs as deep as the sea. He's carrying unspeakable pain and secrets!
[Reading Guide]
Maximum delusion! The whole world is imagining a beautiful romance between the wooden puppet and his "lover." Only Ling Lingqi is worrying about how to fix his joints and wake up his real body.
Ling Lingqi: I just want to stay alive and grind points. How did I become the manga's most popular lovesick character?
Shen Xing: (still asleep, but somehow feels his reputation is being slandered)
The protagonist's team and readers: Ship them! Ship them until the end of time! They're so in love!
Theme: Never give up on yourself.
