None of Yan Yuchen's friends could help envying him, because his new girlfriend, Qin Yiren, looked just like his first love. She was just as her name suggested: beautiful, sweet-tempered, and eminently pleasant to be around.
Yan Yuchen, however, didn't think much of it. "She's just a substitute. The only thing going for her is that she's obedient."
Apart from giving her his heart, Yan Yuchen gave Qin Yiren almost everything she asked for. And her obedience seemed only natural. They had originally thought that no matter how well Qin Yiren treated Yan Yuchen, it didn't necessarily mean she loved him all that much. After all, Yan Yuchen was wealthy, and most women who approached him had ulterior motives. But she was willing to risk her life to save him.
So they decided that Qin Yiren must be madly in love with him.
Even Yan Yuchen himself thought so.
She would call him Yuchen affectionately over and over, telling him how much she loved him and how she couldn't live without him.
She liked to gaze quietly at him and didn't want him to speak. She said she liked him best when he was quiet.
She would write him letters, but always wrote his name as Yan Chen, leaving out the middle character.
He had always thought it was just a careless mistake. Then, after he was injured in a car accident, his doctor, who was also a friend of his, jokingly told Qin Yiren that Yan Yuchen had been disfigured.
Yan Yuchen was confident that Qin Yiren would still love him even if he really were disfigured. But that very night, she packed her things and left him.
Ignoring the bandages on his face, he rushed to demand an explanation. For the first time in her life, she frowned at him. "Your face is already gone. When you speak, you look even less like him."
Only later did Yan Yuchen learn that he had a half-brother on his father's side, five years younger than him, who had died in an accident a year earlier. Qin Yiren had come to his side a month after that.
His younger brother had looked almost exactly like him. His name was Yan Chen.
