On the day of the funeral, snow fell heavily.
Jiang Yingwan stood guard before the cold memorial hall. In the distance, she saw Chen Bozhou walking through the snow, surrounded by a chilling aura, his manner refined and composed, just as it had always been.
He passed through the noisy crowd and came straight toward her.
The hubbub faded, and the crowd dispersed.
Jiang Yingwan looked up and took his cold fingers in her hand, slowly tightening her grip. "Brother, could you stay this time?"
Chen Bozhou silently pulled his hand away. After a long pause, he touched her hair with a hint of distance, just as he had when they were children. "Go downstairs. He's waiting for you."
She opened the window and saw her fiance standing beside the car amid the swirling snow.

The sofa in the living room was narrow. Jiang Yingwan's damp hair clung to Chen Bozhou's chest. Her long, slender leg hooked around his, and her stifled sobs disappeared into the sound of the rain.
She asked, "When we went to the temple this afternoon, you knelt for so long. What were you praying to Buddha for?"
Chen Bozhou said nothing. He removed the hearing aid from his left ear and, each time he leaned toward her, lowered his head to kiss her smooth forehead.
What he had prayed for was this: a hundred years from now, let him be the only one to go to hell.
