Writing A Beauty in the Jianghu has been exhausting so far, so Fox has decided to put it on hold. That doesn't mean I'm abandoning the story completely. I'll pick it back up again. The characters will be the same, and so will their names, but the story and style will change. I originally wanted to make it intensely angsty, but after writing more than 200,000 characters, I belatedly realized that angst and oppression, those weighty elements, simply aren't right for me...
Writing it has left me terribly conflicted, so after much thought, I've decided to start over.
The title, characters, and names will stay the same. Some plot points that I think worked well will also be kept and adjusted as needed. But the style will definitely change, and so will the story. There won't be intense angst or a heavy tone. I'll stick to my usual understated style.
However, even though I'm starting over, it won't happen right away. For now, Fox has decided to switch to another story about cats. That cat story is actually a revival of my old story The Imperial Cat Has Arrived. But the style, characters, and premise have all changed. Only some of the plot points remain (why do I keep doing this...)
I feel especially bad toward everyone, particularly those who have kept commenting and supporting me all this time! Fox is truly sorry, very, very sorry...
The only thing I can do now is get another story posted as soon as possible. One more thing: the new story is called The Sword's Shadow and Orchid Splendor of the Seventh-Five. The sword's shadow is naturally Zhan Zhao, and the orchid splendor is naturally the heroine. The story has two parts. In the first, Zhan Zhao is in the modern world; in the second, the heroine returns to ancient times with Zhan Zhao. As for the story's premise and so on, I'll explain it in the author's note at the end of Chapter One.
I've been blaming myself all day, and I was embarrassed to post this. But after thinking it over, Fox feels like life is already exhausting enough. If even the thing I love most, writing, makes me this tired, then life really is miserable...
So starting over is inevitable. I just can't say when I'll be able to post it again. I can only say that switching to a light, understated, and happy style will probably make writing more enjoyable for me. If so, my updates will probably become more regular and reliable too.
So here's an excuse to comfort myself: if I'm not enjoying writing this story, then the readers probably won't enjoy reading it either.
