After workplace drone Li Lingyue is mentally abused by her boss and works herself to death with overtime, she discovers she has transmigrated into Princess Taiping.
Her father is Emperor Gaozong of Tang, Li Zhi. Her mother is Empress Wu Zetian. She herself is Princess Taiping, the richest woman in the Tang Dynasty, born with every advantage and destined to wield power over the court.
Li Lingyue throws her head back and laughs. "Now that I'm Princess Taiping, who could I possibly be afraid of?"
So she decides never to put up with anything again, and asks herself three questions every day:
Was I being too polite? Did I give him too much credit? Should I just open my mouth and let him have it?
Here's what that looks like in practice:
When faced with her green-tea cousin, Taiping says, "Could you make your act as small as your bank balance?"
When pursued by an oily, overconfident man, Taiping says, "Your parents must have a great sense of humor to have given birth to a joke like you."
When ministers accuse Wu Zetian of letting a woman rule, crowing like a hen at dawn and bringing heaven down upon them,
Taiping says, "There was Fu Hao in the Shang Dynasty and Yi Jiang in the Zhou. Heaven's collapsed so many times already, so how come it still hasn't hit you? Is it because you're too short?"
The old ministers are all left speechless. They complain to Li Zhi and Wu Zetian that the princess has no filter and has disgraced all proper manners.
Taiping sighs. "Your daughter has a modest suggestion. Whoever insults me should have their salary docked. Put the money in the state treasury and use it to establish schools for girls. Wouldn't that be lovely?"
Later, when she becomes the most fearsome legend in the Daming Palace,
The good news: she's the undisputed champion of insults in Chang'an, and the entire court bows its head before her.
The bad news: her mother, Wu Zetian, wants to pass the throne to her and make her the next empress.
The even worse news: she's very tempted!!!
