Synopsis
Jiang Li never imagined that she would run into her deceased wife again at a new product launch hosted by her rival's company.
Four years ago, Jian Yuning was pregnant when she got into a car accident. Both she and the car plunged into the sea. So how was she alive now? And why was she working with the person Jiang Li hated most?
Jiang Li rushed onto the stage like a madwoman and grabbed her wrist. "You can lie to me, and you can start a new life. I just want to know where our baby is!"
Jian Yuning had no idea what she was talking about. In fact, she was so frightened that she broke free and threw herself into Jiang Li's rival's arms.
Jiang Li stared at her empty hand, nearly fainting with rage. Her rival told her that she had only met the amnesiac Jian Yuning in the countryside six months ago. She was alone, with no child. The old woman who had taken her in was hard of hearing and forgetful. Their baby might already be gone...

Jiang Li had always loved getting Jian Yuning's attention. It wasn't exactly bullying; she just wanted to be noticed. She deliberately swapped their books and fought to help Jian Yuning, the class Chinese representative, hand out tests and collect homework.
Even though they lived in the same direction, the aloof girl never took the initiative to walk home with her. Getting her to say even a few words was a luxury.
After a while, Jiang Li began to wonder if Jian Yuning hated her. Whether she offered to share her snacks or asked her mother to buy a new bicycle so she could give Jian Yuning a ride, the girl remained unmoved.
Then a group of thugs began extorting students near the school. Their homeroom teacher and parents forcibly paired them up, making them walk home together every day. Only then did Jian Yuning begin to look at her properly.
Most of the time, though, she just sat on the back of Jiang Li's bicycle, letting the wind blow through her hair in silence.
"Yuning, why do you always look so glum?"
"Why should I smile? I don't like smiling."
"It's hard to make friends when you're like that. It's already the second semester of our first year, and you still go to the convenience store alone. Want me to come with you?"
"You're studying art. Your schedule won't work. Better not."
It was true. Apart from lunch and after school, they hardly had any time together. The art studio was simply too far from their classroom.

A week before the college entrance exams, Jian Yuning underwent secondary gender differentiation. She wasn't the beta she had hoped to be, but the omega she hated most.
Even though Jian Yuning was a top student, one of the best in her grade, the painful restrictions attached to her omega status cut her university major options in half. She also had to sign all kinds of waivers in case she forgot to take her suppressants for reasons related to her condition.
Meanwhile, because Jiang Li was an alpha, she suddenly had several popular major options open to her, even as an art student.
Jian Yuning had always been sensitive. After the double blow to her body and mind, there was no way she could do well on the exams. She enrolled in early childhood education, a major her parents liked but she hated. What she actually loved was Chinese language and literature, not taking care of children.
Her college life passed in a haze, and she lost all her former sparkle.
Jiang Li had followed Jian Yuning to the same university. Thanks to a car her family rewarded her with and a game she developed herself as soon as she started college, she became a campus celebrity. And there was no shortage of omegas around her.
Still, she couldn't stop thinking about Jian Yuning, even though Jian Yuning didn't want to see her.
In their junior year, Jiang Li's parents suddenly told her that Jian Yuning's parents couldn't get in touch with her.
Jiang Li drove out to find her, and for the first time, the two of them opened their hearts and talked all night.
For once, Jian Yuning felt at ease in her company. Their hearts drew closer and closer.
After Jian Yuning's parents found out she was dating Jiang Li, they pressured her to seize the opportunity, get married, and have a child before graduation. If she let this chance pass, they said, she'd never meet another rich young man from such a good family, one without any bad habits.
Jian Yuning was a good girl who had always listened to her parents. And she was a little dependent on Jiang Li, too, so she agreed.
But married life was nothing like what she had wanted. It was especially hard after she became pregnant, when Jiang Li happened to be at her busiest. Business meetings inevitably involved drinking and smoking, and sometimes Jiang Li came home smelling of another omega's pheromones.
For someone as proud as Jian Yuning, it was more than she could bear.
To divorce Jiang Li, escape her parents, and start over, she decided to fake her death and take the baby with her.
-
Jiang Li did everything she could to bring Jian Yuning home, but she was suffering too. The doctor told her that Jian Yuning had been quite far along in her pregnancy when she "disappeared," so it was impossible to tell for sure whether she had given birth. The best thing to do was to help her recover her lost memories as soon as possible, then use them to search for the baby.
But if her memories came back, Yuning would surely leave her again.
What happened back then hadn't been a misunderstanding. Jiang Li really had drunk too much. A business partner had arranged for an omega to kiss her secretly and deliberately left their pheromones on her. Drunk out of her mind, Jiang Li came home without even cleaning herself up.
That was what led to their divorce, and everything that followed...
