Shanju was a little orange cat among countless other spirits.

One day, while working at a shop, he overheard a coworker and a customer talking about their human pets, saying how incredibly cute and lovable they were.

Shanju clenched his fists and looked at his empty wallet, then made up his mind:

He was going to raise a human too!

On a coworker's recommendation, he signed up for an app called Streetfolk. He'd heard there were lots of pretty little humans waiting to be adopted there.

Soon, his eyes lit up.

Name: Qiaoqiao

Gender: Male

Family: No parents, struggling financially

There was also a photo showing only a pair of pitch-black eyes.

Shanju: A little human with black eyes!

His friend had told him that stray little humans were very wary. It took plenty of patience and love to earn their trust and affection, and get them to show their bellies so he could pet them.

So online, he called him “Baby” every other word. Offline, even though he was broke, he kept sending him food. How could he let the little human go hungry?

Shanju was sure the little human would soon trust him.

Lu Qiao was a squad leader at the Bureau of Anomaly Control, and one of the few humans working there.

To capture anomalies, the organization had sent him to sign up for the app and lure out anomalies with a fetish for keeping humans as pets.

Coworker: This time, the target is the Orange Peel Monster. His profile picture is a ball of orange.

Sure enough, this perverted anomaly found him in no time.

But... why did that orange ball look so fluffy?

As things unfolded, Lu Qiao found it harder and harder to bring himself to capture this anomaly.

He called him Baby in the sweetest voice, asked how he was doing, and even sent him a whole bunch of food.

How could he bring himself to capture him?

So he ruthlessly deleted his account and ran, handing it over to a coworker and asking him to make the arrest instead.

Who knew his coworker would open the account and scream:

“Holy crap, boss! You got the wrong person!!”

Lu Qiao: “Huh?”

The little human Shanju had raised ran away.

He was very upset. He had no idea what he'd done wrong or why the little human no longer liked him.

Now that he'd made money, he didn't know who to spend it on. He went back to his old, monotonous life of slaving away at work.

Then one day, as usual, he asked a customer what they wanted to order. A familiar, gentle voice came from above his head:

“Hello. I'd like an order of wasabi-flavored fried chicken.”

The little human seemed not to recognize him.

Shanju was miserable until the end of his shift. As he walked through the alley he always took home, in the pouring rain, he saw the little human he'd been longing for lying unconscious on the ground, covered in injuries.

Shanju thought about it, then took the stray little human home.

Since nobody else wanted him, it was okay if Shanju took him, right?

The little human may have tricked him, but if Shanju left such a pretty little human outside, someone else might snatch him up first!

Pets could be mischievous. That was normal. He'd just take him home and train him properly!

When Lu Qiao opened his eyes again, he saw a round-faced, big-eyed cat person lying on top of him, smiling as he said:

“You're awake! Don't worry, I'll take care of you!”

* One-on-one. The top and bottom are each other's one and only in every way.

* The setting: In the future, meteorite radiation has altered Earth. Plants and animals have mutated and taken over, while the human population has plummeted. The technology is advanced, but not that advanced. (This will be explained in the story.)

* The top's information is fake. He's not 165 cm! He's an upright, chaste man who bristles when teased.

* The bottom is an evil cat. His thought process is a little strange, and he often says shocking things that leave the top flustered.
