The moment morning light streamed into the classroom, Shen Xingyao, the top student in her grade, clutched her class assignment notice and was thrust into a mismatched life with Pei Jinhan, the "problem student." With the hand wrapped in a faded wrist guard, he snatched her seating slip and used a poker game as a wager to drag the good student into an absurd battle of desk mates.
Chalk dust and graffiti paint clashed across the desks, while disciplinary essays and sketchbooks tangled together in the drawers. Though they came from different worlds, the two caught glimpses of each other's cracks as they sparred. When Pei Jinhan's silver-gray hair became tinged with Shen Xingyao's starlight, the bet that began as a prank ultimately lost to feelings left unspoken. It turned out that the sharpest edges of youth were all clumsy confessions, and fate had already written regret into the scattered playing cards from the moment they first met.
