A Summer Wish

It was an ordinary summer day.

I had lit a charcoal fire, sealed the windows, and decided to say goodbye to the world

when I received a letter of farewell.

The letter's author had already died in an accident.

I was the sole beneficiary named in her will.

Along with the inheritance, she asked me to carry out several last wishes for her.

But I barely knew the deceased.

My only memory of her was from that midsummer,

when a girl raised her head, her tangled strands of hair sticking to her pale cheek. She was timid and strange, and couldn't even clearly say she was sorry.

But the dead deserve respect, so I decided to postpone my own death for a while.

Following her letter, I adopted her cat and dog, moved into her home, and began tending to the garden full of unwanted flowers.

After I had taken care of everything, another ordinary summer day came.

I swallowed some pills, ready to bring my curtain call to a close.

But that night,

a girl climbed in through the broken window and bent down to kiss me awake.

"Could you help me with the rest of my last wishes, too?"

The girl's eyes were red, her body soft and warm. She lowered her head and gently pecked the corner of my lips.

"Please... I'm really begging you."
