"This is Xu Qing. You both studied abroad at U University. She was always so quiet and well-behaved. I suppose you don't remember her?"

Shen Yubai's gaze was cool, and his tone stiff. "A pleasure to meet you, Miss Xu."

Miss Xu had been very strange when they studied abroad.

She would turn down his confession, then show up the next day, teary-eyed, holding a cat, and knock on his door.

Her lips were soft and her body warm. She was passionate behind closed doors, but cold once she stepped outside. If they met on the street, she acted as if they were strangers.

"How would you define what we had back then?"

Miss Xu considered it seriously and answered with complete candor, choosing her words with elegance.

"A relationship where we slept together."

Shen Yubai fell silent for a moment. The corners of his eyes lifted, giving him a seductive look, but his chest heaved as he spoke harshly. "Xu Qing, I really want to strangle you."

While studying abroad, Xu Qing had a band-aid kind of relationship. Whenever she was hurting or bleeding somewhere, she would start seeing someone.

To her, the relationship was nothing more than each of them getting what they wanted. Neither needed to feel guilty about it.

Besides, a good woman should set her sights on the world. Buying a house and a car, and ordering eight male models in one day, was the life she deserved.

"Sit in my lap and kiss me a little longer?" The male model surnamed Shen had a dark gaze. His hand gripped her slender waist, burning hot, as the air grew feverish and sticky.

An old flame really was delicious. "What if someone sees us?"

Shen Yubai immediately got defensive. "You want to sneak around with me again! I'm telling you, don't even think about it!"

"Can you not take a joke?"

Shen Yubai: ...

Shen Yubai: "Come here."

Their ill-fated connection began on an entirely ordinary spring day.

She finished her noodles and went up the mountain. There was a pit up there, and she planned to go die in it.

When she got there, good grief, there was already a dead man in the pit.

She shakily dragged him out, only for him to hold a knife to her throat halfway through.

"Save me, or I'll kill you." The man was gravely wounded.

A Jiao heard this and thought it was just what she wanted. She thrust her neck forward, trembling. "Go... go ahead."

The man flew into a rage. How dare a country bumpkin provoke him? His blood rushed to his head, and he promptly passed out.

A Jiao pouted in disappointment, then happened to notice how much this man resembled her childhood sweetheart, who had died.

The day's almanac suddenly flashed through her mind.

Today was a good day for sacrifices and burials, and for reuniting with old friends.

She sat there watching the white clouds and birds for a while. Beside her, the man's blood poured out in a steady stream, like a creek.

The sun was warm and bright, and a gentle breeze was blowing. She stood up and brushed the dust from her clothes.

A Jiao decided to take him down the mountain.

The Pei clan of Dongdu had been a family of nobles for generations. Their eldest young master was the brightest jewel among the entire clan's nobility. Unfortunately, that jewel had just gone clunk and fallen into misfortune.

The eldest young master was convinced A Jiao was deeply in love with him. But when he tried to take her back to the capital, the audacious woman ran away.

No wonder they say poor mountains and bad waters breed unruly folk. The eldest young master employed a few thunderous measures and returned to the capital with an unruly woman in tow.

The unruly woman was stunningly beautiful, pale as a rabbit. Young Master Pei kept her in a golden cage and doted on her day and night.

When the Third Prince heard about it, he became curious and went to the Pei residence for a drink, where he unexpectedly overheard a steamy, shameless conversation through the wall.

"I... I'd rather die than... stay here!"

"Even if you become a ghost, you won't take a single step away from here!"

When the Third Prince saw the eldest young master come out, he advised him, "You shouldn't force her. You ought to coax her."

Young Master Pei straightened his collar slightly. "When have I ever forced her? A Jiao has feelings for me. I was just a little more proactive."
