Synopsis
Post-apocalyptic development in the first half, invasion from another world in the second.
The ruthless heir to an arms-dealing family x a powerful necromancer who is accidentally born as a canary. After her birth, the necromancer has a perfect body, but she is a massive money pit.
Eve, the great Lord of the Undead, was in the middle of her [Rite of Rebirth] when an important ingredient got scratched by a skeletal cat. Her rebirth site shifted as a result.
She arrived on Blue Star in the weakest state of her undead life.
It was the year 2030, and Blue Star was on the verge of natural disasters that would bring about the apocalypse, while human society still sang and danced as if nothing were wrong.
The miserable Eve was given to a haughty human woman.
At night, the woman dropped her indifferent mask and teased and toyed with her using vulgar words and behavior. She even called her a... "canary"?
To get her hands on heaps of gems and gold and restore her magic, Eve endured it all, acting meek and clingy. Every day, once the human fell asleep, she would grit her teeth and think:
So you like canaries, huh? Once my magic is back, you'll be the first one I turn into a skeletal canary!
Wen Qing was the heir to the world's largest arms-dealing family, whose business spanned both legal and illegal circles. Tens of thousands of employees worked for her across the globe.
One day, a distributor from Country C sent her a gift: a canary very much to her liking.
The beautiful woman had shimmering red eyes, flowing black hair, and flawless features, figure, and bearing. She looked like an exquisite figurine.
A shame she was rather dull in bed.
Wen Qing was busy with work and didn't have time to personally train a canary, but she was indeed obsessed with the woman's perfect appearance, so she still gave her careful lessons every night.
The night Wen Qing came home after several days away on business, she was astonished to find that her canary had become lively, radiant, and full of life.
But she was still disobedient in bed, and expected to be carried around like a princess.
No matter. Wen Qing preferred a spirited little pet to a boring doll.
But she couldn't accept her little pet asking for a ton of gold the moment she opened her mouth.
The stated purpose: food expenses.
When the great disaster first struck, everyone thought it was just an unusually hot summer.
Earth had been acting strangely for years, so much so that this kind of "abnormality" had gradually come to be seen as "normal."
Wen Qing was a lawless woman through and through. At an international video conference, she bluntly declared, "The end of the world is great for the arms business." The regional general managers all applauded, praising their boss's boldness.
That is, until a tsunami flooded the island villa where Wen Qing lived.
The all-around arms mogul planned to take her canary and sail back to the mainland, but could only watch as a bone dragon, taller than the Tyrannosaurus skeleton in a museum, emerged from the sea.
The bone dragon slowly bent one knee and bowed to her in the perfect posture of a knight. It even spoke in Mandarin:
"Honored and mighty Lord of the Undead, your loyal and foolish servant comes to offer you his most sincere and devout greetings."
As Wen Qing looked around for a camera, the canary beside her clicked her tongue in annoyance:
"This thing can't swim. Wasn't I summoning a plesiosaur?"
But once they returned to land, things were even worse than Wen Qing had expected.
Scientists estimated that humanity would go extinct within ten years.
Still, even if the apocalypse really was coming, the workers weren't getting any time off.
Wen Qing calmly accepted the fact that her canary wasn't human, and kept taking her around the world to make deals. The apocalypse really was good for the arms business.
In the sweltering heat after the power went out again, Wen Qing entered a hotel suite cold as an ice cellar and asked her canary: Could you summon a few ghosts with gentler faces to cool things down next time?
In the bitter winter cold, with the heating broken, Wen Qing watched her canary summon a huge fireball that nearly set the villa ablaze. She quickly coaxed her to cool her temper.
The Lord of the Undead, whose magic had been steadily recovering, finally opened a dimensional gate home. She decided to take Wen Qing with her and leave this place with its wildly erratic temperatures, but Wen Qing refused to go.
Just as Eve was about to resort to force, a familiar energy fluctuation slowly approached from inside the gate.
Wen Qing noticed something was wrong with her: "Sweetheart, aren't you leaving?"
Eve turned around, her pale red eyes widening in shock. "I opened the gate in the wrong direction."
This is a lighthearted, funny romance and plot-driven story, with a little reflection on humanity's destruction of nature.
Theme: Protect the Earth we depend on for survival.
