The first time she saw Chen Xilin was on a rainy night.
The internet at home was down, so she went to an internet cafe to play games.
In a dim corner, a man wearing a cap lounged loosely in his chair. Shadows fell across his face, making it hard to see clearly. But the fingers holding the mouse were long and beautiful.
She couldn't help taking a couple more looks. Deliberately circling around behind him, she caught sight of the bright red results on his screen and frowned.
What a noob.
They met again in the apartment complex she had just moved into. Chen Xilin was her neighbor.
That night, Xu Tao was livestreaming a game when she spotted a familiar ID among the nearby players. She casually invited him to join her and climb the ranks, saying that since they were neighbors, helping each other was only right. She'd teach him how to play step by step and help him reach the peak of his life.
As the hottest female streamer in the gaming category, Xu Tao was beautiful and highly skilled. There were enough guys who wanted to pursue her to fill two whole streets, but not one of them dared to confess to her in person.
Everyone knew that anyone hoping to win Xu Tao over had to meet two conditions:
1. Beat her in a solo match.
2. Reach No. 1 on the Peak leaderboard.
Seeing Xu Tao regularly sitting at the top of the rankings, everyone gave up before even trying.
But some time later, Xu Tao checked the Peak leaderboard and saw a familiar ID ranked above hers. She opened the player's profile. They had played a total of 247 matches this season. Looking further down, she saw that they were only nine meters apart.
For a moment, she fell silent.
