[Two endings: the main story ends in tragedy, with both leads dying; the happy ending will be in a bonus chapter.]
Fu Shulan was constantly targeted by Gu Hengyue at court. After the morning session, she casually kidnapped a man to keep as a lover and gave him her nemesis Gu Hengyue's name.
If she couldn't deal with Gu Hengyue, finding a stand-in to vent her anger on would be just as good.
She never expected to bring the real Gu Hengyue home.
But Gu Hengyue didn't expose her, and the two tacitly played along with the charade.
At first, Gu Hengyue only wanted to use the opportunity to gather evidence of her crimes, so he went along with the misunderstanding. But he never expected to lose himself in the act.
"Hengyue, are you loyal to this princess?"
"From the day I met the Grand Princess, I have had no other intentions."
"Would you die for me?"
"I would brave fire and water for you, Princess. What is one life, after all?"
If he could, he would rather never have become the chief minister.
The first time Fu Shulan embraced Gu Hengyue of her own accord, blood accompanied the embrace.
The dagger pierced his body. She understood everything.
"Gu Hengyue, only the dead cannot betray me."
"Gu Hengyue, I love you."
"When I have achieved my goal, I will grant you a place in my tomb."
