After an unexpected accident, Shi Ling entered a mysterious village.
When the System malfunctioned, Cupid's arrow struck her and a man named Lu Xunzhou. From then on, their fates were bound together.
Perhaps because a red thread connecting their lives was tied around them, Shi Ling and Lu Xunzhou might not have liked each other, but they never did anything to hurt one another. They also couldn't find a way to break the bond. As time went by, the awkward red thread gradually became familiar, and their relationship grew less strained.
After one dungeon run, Lu Xunzhou held a watermelon and clicked his tongue with interest. "I can't believe I actually think things are pretty nice like this. I wonder if it's the Matchmaker's blessing."
Shi Ling turned to him and sat in silence, expressionless. Then she suddenly burst out laughing. "Do you know why we always feel this way after finishing a dungeon?"
Lu Xunzhou watched her without blinking, as if waiting for her answer.
Shi Ling narrowed her eyes and said each word distinctly:
"It's the suspension bridge effect."
[Bonus Scene]
Unlike the other players, who were so scared out of their wits that they only dared to follow the System's instructions to the letter, Shi Ling calmly accepted the System's rules as soon as she entered the game, and her rebellious streak only got worse.
In one dungeon:
System: "You must survive this dungeon. Do not damage any natural objects under any circumstances. You will be responsible for the consequences."
Shi Ling thought for a few seconds, quickly found a loophole, nodded in satisfaction, then picked up a fallen branch and started rubbing it against a stick to make a fire.
Lu Xunzhou, already used to this, dutifully shielded her from the wind and helped get the fire going.
A teammate sobbed, "Didn't the System say we couldn't touch anything?"
The fire Shi Ling had worked so hard to start suddenly went out. A piercing alarm rang out around them. "Players [Shi Ling] and [Lu Xunzhou] have knowingly damaged an object. The group will lose 500 points for repairs."
Lu Xunzhou: "You brought this on yourself."
Shi Ling: "..."
The teary-eyed teammate: "?"
Shi Ling, cold on the outside and even colder within, forever stuck in her rebellious phase & Lu Xunzhou, a black-hearted schemer who only ever goes against the System
"When death is close at hand, nothing can be predicted. Seer, tell me, will tonight be a peaceful night?"
