In the third week of the second semester of high school, Jian Zhizhou stood in front of the classroom and read the English text. The morning light fell slantingly on her open textbook, making her voice particularly clear.
"Page 42, the third paragraph..."
Her pronunciation is very standard, with a slight upward pitch at the end, like a ray of sunshine that occasionally shines through during the rainy season in London.
In the back row of the classroom, Lin Ye's hand spinning the pen suddenly stopped. He raised his head, looked over the shoulders of the classmates in the front row, and landed on her eyebrows, which were slightly frowned due to concentration.
During recess time, Jian Zhizhou was stopped at the corner of the corridor. Lin Ye handed over an original book of "Pride and Prejudice" with a bookmark on the page where Elizabeth rejected Darcy.
"I don't understand this paragraph very well," he pointed at the dense English, "I would like to ask the English class representative for advice."
Jian Zhizhou opened the book and found that the margins of the page were marked very lightly with pencil:
"Miss Jiang should hire you to record the listening tapes... Unless you charge by the hour."
——Later she noticed that this transfer student in the class always got perfect scores on the English listening test.
