Pretending to Have Amnesia Lands Me in a Crematorium Plot

A poor boy barely clinging to life meets a young master fallen on hard times. He thinks they are two lonely fledglings relying on each other, but they are only using each other to satisfy their own curiosity.

When Duan Su Liu remembers being nineteen, all he recalls is hunger, poverty, and exhaustion. There were occasional warm moments, but the connection was bad and the flickering unbearable. It was like the low-voltage, scorching-hot light bulb in his rented room: stare too long and it left you dizzy, with dry, stinging eyes.

Wei Nian, on the other hand, remembers nothing about being nineteen except how good Duan Su Liu was to him, like flawless moonlight gently wrapping him in its embrace.

Looking back, the moon is still as beautiful as ever, only now it shines on someone else.

And the moon that shines on someone else still has to remind him: Hey, I’m just a light bulb. Don’t get your hopes up.

Wei Nian refuses to give up. He insists on dreaming, dreaming that the lamp becomes the moon, that the moon shines down into a gutter holding all his dark, twisted anguish. He wants the moon to fall and sink into the sea of sorrow made from his tears.

Content warning: He hasn’t lost his memory, he’s pretending. Angst, groveling and chasing his husband after a breakup, happy ending.

Theme: Self-indulgent sentimentality gets you nowhere.
