Seven Days to Catch a Killer

"When fate treats you unfairly, would you risk your life to fight back?"

"When seeking justice brings the whole world down on you, will you hold fast to your original convictions?"

Shen Mo, an intern reporter well-versed in materialism, loved sticking her nose into other people's business while chasing news. With nothing but courage in her heart, she swore to uphold justice.

But during an act of heroism, reality gave her a couple of hard knocks. The criminal dragged her down the stairs with him, and they both ended up in the ICU.

Hovering between life and death, she thought her life was over. Then she heard a shocked underworld employee say:

"Sorry, miss, we got the wrong person! The real culprit is still on the run... Could we make it up to you with a cup of Granny Meng's pearly milk tea?"

Shen Mo: "Oh my god, can you people do your jobs properly? So I died for nothing?!"

The number of wronged souls was surging!

Black mists filled the Scales of Grievance, the waters of the River of Forgetfulness overflowed, and the ferry carrying a group of ghosts broke down completely. The underworld's reincarnation system was stuck, bringing everything to a standstill...

As everyone stood bewildered, a cool, beautiful judge in a perfectly tailored suit appeared from the depths of the mist, carrying a lantern. He said coldly, "If this case isn't solved, you'll all be trapped here forever, nameless ghosts."

Seizing this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, Shen Mo volunteered. The two joined forces to hunt down the killer against the clock, only to discover that the source of the surge in wronged souls was...

"Meddling in other people's business can get you killed. Understand?"

"But someone has to step up."

When she fell from the rooftop, she thought her life was over.

The judge, who had never overstepped his bounds, tore the Book of Life and Death to pieces.

"Meddling in other people's business can get you killed. Understand?!"

"I still have to meddle..."

Shen Mo: "..."

Content warnings:

1. Fantasy, suspense, criminal investigations, and fighting evil. The romance is not a major focus and develops slowly. The beginning is frustrating, while the later story is more about the heroine taking down scumbags and getting satisfying revenge... maybe. The suspense may or may not be suspenseful, so feel free to wait until there are more chapters before reading. Kisses!

2. The heroine is physically powerful by human standards and incredibly brave about pursuing love. She takes the lead in the relationship (a personal preference of mine that I can't help hinting at).

3. Later, the heroine returns to the human world to investigate cases on her own. The male lead doesn't get much screen time. There are some angsty moments, but it has a happy ending.

Premise: Take an active role in changing your fate when faced with adversity.
