Welcome to the New Century

More or less an expanded alternate timeline of that magic academy story.

The same characters living different lives in a different setting.

In the new century, pollution has ravaged the environment, monsters have appeared, and resources are scarce.

The human disability rate has reached 95%.

The 5% of able-bodied people are called the New Humans. They have perfect bodies and powerful supernatural abilities, control 99% of the resources, and live in Sunfire City.

The remaining Old Humans are divided into different ranks according to the severity of their disabilities, and live in separate cities.

Loris grew up in Mayfly City.

His adoptive father collected scrap for a living, and Loris was the scrap his father had picked up.

His adoptive father was always busy raising him, so Loris collected scrap to entertain himself.

He found a writhing lump of sludge, which later took human form.

After his adoptive father left and Loris moved to Sunfire City, it became his only connection to Mayfly City.

A man living in Mayfly City found a "healthy" human infant in a garbage heap. He had planned to sell the child on the black market, but discovered that although the infant had legs, he couldn't use them.

He thought he had found a treasure, but it turned out to be junk.

Grumbling, the man had no choice but to raise him at home for the time being.

As time went by, he found he couldn't bring himself to sell the little one.

But the little one wasn't junk at all. He was a treasure.

A treasure could not be sullied by dust, and he could never reach the treasure's radiance.
