[Bright, Cheerful Little Sun x Scheming, Taciturn Fake Gentleman]
Mutual firsts | Sweet romance | One-on-one | Secret identities revealed |
Xia Zhi, the only daughter of the Duke of Zhenguo, had been carefree since birth. Her favorite thing to do every day was eat, drink, have fun, and explore every corner of the capital. For the first sixteen years of her life, she lived by just eight words:
Eat well, have fun, and be happy forever.
It was an ordinary afternoon when her father, Duke Xia Yuan, returned to the estate with a grim expression and yanked Xia Zhi off the swing.
"You've been betrothed."
"To whom?"
"Yu Han, the Prince Regent."
Who?
That ruthless, icy living hell who was rumored to show his face only behind a veil? What did that mean...
It meant he was definitely an ugly monster!
That night, Xia Zhi gazed at the dark sky beyond her window, clasped her hands, and said in despair, "Heavens, tell me, what do I have to do to avoid marrying that ugly monster?"
"Thud."
A dull sound came from the courtyard.
In the moonlight lay a man covered in blood. Though blood and grime marred his face, his breathtaking beauty was impossible to hide.
Xia Zhi sucked in a breath and blinked.
"Well," she said, crouching down and poking his icy cheek with a fingertip, "you are... quite handsome."
As if possessed, she dragged him back to her bedroom. In a panic, she bandaged his wounds and stopped the bleeding, secretly hid medicine for him, and cared for him in secret.
She named him "Xiao Tian."
This "Xiao Tian" was quiet but unexpectedly useful, with unfathomable martial skills. If she pointed east, he never went west.
But the wedding date still drew closer like a death sentence.
The night before the wedding, Xia Zhi grabbed Xiao Tian by the sleeve, her eyes shining. "Tomorrow, after my bridal sedan leaves, find a chance to kidnap me. We'll run away together."
Xiao Tian looked at her deeply, then slowly nodded.
But from dawn until dark, from the moment she left home to the wedding night, Xiao Tian never showed up.
She sat on the red silk bedding, waiting anxiously.
"Creak..." The door finally opened.
Steady footsteps drew near. The ceremonial rod slipped under her veil and gently lifted it.
Xia Zhi looked up eagerly and blurted out, "Xiao Tian! What took you so long? I've been waiting for you..."
Her voice cut off.
"Why are you wearing wedding clothes?"
The man before her curved his lips slightly. He leaned down, pinning her between his arms and the bed strewn with festive red, his low voice shattering the last of her hopes, one word at a time:
"Who else would I be, my bride?"
[A lighthearted, sweet romance about saving each other]
Check out my upcoming novel: What Do I Do If I Used the Love Spell on the Wrong Person?
Jiang Yuanchu transmigrated into a book, but... it seemed there wasn't even a character like her in it?
The problem was, she hadn't even finished reading the book!
Never mind. One more unpopular concubine wasn't going to make much difference.
The System said: Put a love spell on the tyrant within three days. Once the spell enters his body, if he sleeps with anyone other than the person who cast it, he'll die on the spot. If he dies, she can go home.
Fine! Three days later, she successfully slipped the spell into the tyrant's wine.
As she watched him drink it, Yuanchu could barely hold back her laughter.
Just wait until they come to collect your corpse!
Then...
She waited seven days. He didn't die.
She waited half a month. He still didn't die.
What's more, he visited a different concubine's palace every night, as tirelessly as a stud.
Yuanchu: ??? How many times has it been now?
She finally couldn't take it anymore.
She sneaked up to his bedchamber to see what was going on.
As soon as she got close, she heard sounds coming from inside.
Yuanchu blushed, but she was even more confused.
How could he still be alive? How had he not died?
She crouched beneath the window, listening with burning cheeks and no clue what was going on.
Just as she was about to leave, a hand suddenly reached around from behind and covered her mouth.
The next moment, someone dragged her into a secret room nearby.
As the door shut, she finally got a clear look at the person.
He had the exact same face as the tyrant.
But his eyes were different. This man was...
Cold. Sharp.
He let go and looked down at her. "Heard enough?"
Yuanchu's heart pounded. "Y-You are..."
He gave a faint smile, but it never reached his eyes.
"I am the emperor."
Her mind exploded. "Impossible! The emperor is in there..."
He calmly brushed off his sleeve. "The one in there is my younger brother."
Yuanchu froze. The sounds from the bedchamber continued.
He took a step forward; she backed away until her back hit the wall.
"You've been waiting for me to die every day, haven't you?"
"Every night, you've been listening for sounds, haven't you?"
"And tonight, you finally couldn't resist coming to see for yourself?"
Yuanchu was so flustered by his questions that she couldn't say a word.
He stepped back, turned, and walked toward the door. After two steps, he stopped without looking back.
"Go back to bed."
"Tomorrow night, I'll come to your palace."
The door opened and shut. The secret room was left with only Yuanchu and the faint sounds of panting from outside.
It's over.
It's really over.
