Basically, it's a story about the gong supporting the shou through college. They depend on each other, start out dirt-poor, and share a room. They pretend to be relatives when they're out in public, but in private they maintain all kinds of secret, intimate, boundary-crossing relationships. As they struggle toward their dreams, they fall in love against the conventions of society.
