A fiery bride and an honest general
Everyone in the capital said Zhu Lan was extraordinarily talented, beautiful, gentle, and demure. The year Zhu Lan came of age, so many people came to ask for her hand in marriage that they nearly wore down the threshold of the Zhu family home.
Yet Zhu Lan married five times, and each husband fled the next day, terrified by her fierce temperament. Every one of them signed a divorce agreement.
Her extraordinary talent was real, and so was her beauty. Her gentleness and demureness, however, were fake.
For the sixth attempt, the matchmaker took a chest of silver from the Zhu family and found her a military general.
Pei Min was famously tall and burly. He killed without blinking on the battlefield, and fortune-tellers said he was so full of murderous energy that no one in the capital dared marry him.
So Zhu Lan married him.
On their wedding night, Pei Min saw his petite bride sitting aggressively on the canopy bed, holding a huge saber and wearing a bright red bridal veil.
When he lifted the veil, Zhu Lan was just about to assert her authority when she saw the towering man blushing as he knelt on the floor, holding out the deeds to his house and land, along with the storeroom keys. "From now on, you will manage the household, Madam. I will never take a concubine."
Zhu Lan quietly put her saber away.
Under the brocade canopy, Zhu Lan hadn't expected Pei Min to be such an honest man. He wouldn't remove her clothes or cross a single line, making her seem like the lecher instead. Fortunately, he was quick to learn. Even after he did, Pei Min still blushed.
From then on, Zhu Lan picked up a new hobby: teasing Pei Min, her strong and sturdy husband.
