Lin Yan is a junior disciple of Chanqing Palace.
On her first journey down the mountain, her very first mission is to pick up a young man, who happens to be gravely injured.
But when he wakes, the young man grabs her by the shoulders so tightly he nearly crushes her bones. "I need to find a Soul-Congealing Lamp."
To help him find it, Lin Yan and Qin Shen set off on a journey to exterminate evil spirits.
Qin Shen treats her so well. He buys her candy and pastries, and carves her a sandalwood bracelet...
There probably isn't another person in the world who could treat her as well as Qin Shen does. So Lin Yan has always thought it only natural that she would fall for him.
It isn't until she enters the Peach Blossom Realm that she learns the person Qin Shen has always held in his heart isn't her.
In the illusion, Lin Yan sees their shared past and finally understands that all those sweet little moments were merely things the young man had repeated with someone else.
He taught her to read, made her a sandalwood bracelet, bought her candy and pastries, and fell in love for the first time.
The young man bends down, but the lips he kisses aren't Lin Yan's.
His eyes full of affection, he says, "A Yuan, wait for me."
"I'll come back and marry you."

Everyone knows that the peerless Gu Lin, the renowned Immortal Venerable of Chanqing Palace, died young after going mad during his tribulation of love.
Few know that a remnant fragment of his spirit survived.
That fragment descended into the mortal world and fell in love at first sight with the girl who saved him.
Was it love at first sight, or a reunion after a long separation?
Even he couldn't tell.
He only wanted to be with the girl before him forever, never to part.
But once the girl saw through his tribulation of love, she left him without hesitation.
Qin Shen returned to those days when he had lost her, devastated and in unbearable pain.
He carved eighteen hundred marks into his wrist and drew out his spiritual bone.
If his skin healed over, he would carve it again.
All he asked was for A Yan to come back...
·
When the two met again,
Qin Shen was kneeling on the ground before Lin Yan.
"Here, the spirit-storing pouch and the Soul-Congealing Lamp are yours. Destroy them if you want."
"You can do the same to me. Kill me if you want."
"I only ask one thing of you: please don't leave me..."
